New Support Group Being Offered
This October 2024

WHAT IS EXPRESSIVE ARTS?

Expressive Arts Therapy for adults (or EXA) uses the creative process to support emotional growth and healing. This approach calls upon our inherent intuition to create. EXA can help initiate change and can support people who have a hard time articulating what they are feeling. When we can get out of "thinking mode," it allows space for our deeper wisdom to arrive.

In this specific group, we will mostly be using writing tools and collage supplies.

WHAT IF I’M NOT CREATIVE? CAN I STILL DO EXPRESSIVE ARTS?

Absolutely! EXA is for everyone! EXA is about the process and allowing the expression to emerge. The end product is not at all the focus. The arts are the tool, the process of engaging in the arts is where the healing happens. Absolutely no previous art experience is required.

WHAT DOES MINDFULNESS LOOK LIKE IN AN EXPRESSIVE ARTS SUPPORT GROUP?

The therapist will gently guide participants to pause throughout group conversations and invite them to notice their thoughts, emotions, feelings, and surroundings for a few moments. This is done silently.

The therapist may also invite participants to reflect on what they noticed through writing, drawing, collage making, or other forms of expressive arts.
